Topic: Lyrics to New song (Moorestown/Morristown)

This is what I figured out so far, still lots of blanks :

Her window looked down on North Church street
_____________________________________________
Our photobooks, our smiling friends
______________ New York, Los angeles
Her walls are made ________
Her baby sister ___________________
Saltwater taffy, Jersey shore
Blue like the fingernails she wore
Her house is not far from the school
Her mom _____________
Her dad's guitar sing open tunes
Reverberates up through the floor
Our love grew _________ on summer ________
We'd spend our days just driving around
Old parking and neighborhoods
And ________ in Moorestown
I followed her across the Earth
through parks in London, ____________
Newport, Kentucky, New Orleans
We shared a million lives it seemed
I slept with her so many nights
We moved together ________ (Avenue ?)
So close to North Pacific _________
___________________ beside me
She moved away to Williamsburg
Her ___ sad eyes _________________________
My thoughts ______________
when her name was spoken
And the compass _______
I cannot bear to wonder now
If the cascading soft lights
Are glowing for us in Moorestown
Are glowing for us in Moorestown

It seems very beautiful. Can you help ?

Re: Lyrics to New song (Moorestown/Morristown)

hey i am originally from a "moorestown"!  do you have an mp3 of that song?

Re: Lyrics to New song (Moorestown/Morristown)

I almost got it :

Her window looked out on North Church Street
And I had (...) overgrown
A photobook of smiling friends
Road maps, New York, Los Angeles
Her walls are made in (...) blue
Her baby sister picked the hue
Saltwater taffy, Jersey shore
Blue like the fingernails she wore

The house is not far from the school
Her mom taught on there too
Her dad's guitar sings open tunes
Reverberate up through the floor
Our love grew more one summer there
We'd spend our days just driving round
Old parking lots and neighborhoods
In frame, in charm, in Morristown (probably wrong, maybe names of other towns ?)

I followed her across the Earth
Through parks in London, coasts of pearl
Newport, Kentucky and New orleans
We shared a million lives it seems
I slept with her so many nights
We moved together heavenly
So close the North Pacific slept
You too were once beside me

She moved away to Williamsburg
Her eyes sad like a raven
My heart will pause, my throat will swell
When her name is spoken
In the compass, the coal (...) sea
I cannot help but wonder now
If the cascading soft lights
are glowing for us in Morristown
are glowing for us in Morristown

I'm almost sure it's "Morristown".

Thanks to Restless_Stranger for his help.

Re: Lyrics to New song (Moorestown/Morristown)

i believe the line is "Her walls are Mediterranean blue/Her baby sister picked the hue."

and that it's "Through parks in London/coasts of Perth (Australia)."

I could, of course, be wrong. I hope to god he releases this in a proper studio version soon, because it's an amazing song and the boot I've heard doesn't do it justice.

Mmm, I'm still going with Moorestown, Pierre.  To wit:  http://www.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=e … mp;iwloc=A

at the blasphemy in my old jangly walk."

Re: Lyrics to New song (Moorestown/Morristown)

A few more corrections/suggestions. The second line, I'm almost sure, is "an attic space overgrown." The last line of the second stanza sounds more like "in framed and charming Moorestown." And the questionable line in the last stanza of the possibilities I hear, "cold, dark sea" seems to make the most sense, although I'd almost swear he's actually saying "cold, long sea". That said, I only have one version of this (Portland), so if there are others, perhaps it sounds different there.

One more edit: "Her mom taught on the Hudson"

Re: Lyrics to New song (Moorestown/Morristown)

Yeah you're probably right about most of these ... And I hear the "long sea" too but since it didn't make much sense I didn't wrote it down.

Re: Lyrics to New song (Moorestown/Morristown)

I have the Portland concert on CD also, and although it's very difficult to hear, (you need a really good speaker), I think the line you guys are talking about is "and looking past the cold long sea."

Re: Lyrics to New song (Moorestown/Morristown)

Just got this one off the FTP - the Ram's Head 5/22/06 show.  Truly is haunting.

Does anyone have any idea how many RHP songs are about this muse?

I remember at the Philly First Unitarian show he said that New Jersey was about her, Trailways was about her, I'm guessing Smokey and Void are about her as well.  Most certainly that one line Carry Me Ohio is in her reverence "Can't count to / all the lovers I've burnt through / so why do I still burn for you."

Also, is Moorestown NJ the Moorestown he's talking about?  See it on google maps: http://tinyurl.com/y8wvkc  There is a North Church Street.  Going over his bio in my head, I can't remember anytime Koz spent in NJ.  There's a Church Street in San Fran that I thought would be a better fit.

Re: Lyrics to New song (Moorestown/Morristown)

Woooo, go Philly. I am pretty sure that this is not the same girl as "Carry Me Ohio." My understanding is "Carry Me Ohio," "Katy Song" and "Breathe My Love" are all about the same girl, who died at some point.

This one I am guessing is "New Jersey," "Trailways," "Moorestown" and (probably) "Brockwell Park" ("parks in London, coasts of Perth"). And yes, I'm pretty sure it's Jersey - "her house is not far from the school - her mom taught on the Hudson."

Re: Lyrics to New song (Moorestown/Morristown)

I cannot quote the book exactly here but as Mark explains it in the intro of Noites de Atropos : Katy inspired him Katy Song, Brockwell Park and Drop. These three songs are about three different times of their lives (if you want to know more about this get it from the book, it's all in there, I'm not gonna ramble on about the man's personnal life).

I read in an interview that Carry Me Ohio was about one of the most difficult moments of his life. I don't know if he ever mentionned this song being about the same woman even though it allegedly is. If someone knows more about this please fill me in.

If that song's about her, it's most probable that Unlit Hallway (breathe my love always sounded awful and very not Kozelek-y) is about her two. I agree that the "Parks in London, Coasts of Perth" seems to link Moorestown to the same woman.

I didn't know about Trailways and New Jersey. I'm particularly surprised about the latter ?

PS : Where's Williamsburg ? In the state of NY ?

Re: Lyrics to New song (Moorestown/Morristown)

Here's a couple of more reasons why it probably is Moorestown, NJ.  There is a line, "salt water taffy, Jersey shore."  Also, Moorestown is mostly frame houses, as are most Jersey towns.
There is a Williamsburg in New York, but there's a more famous one in Virginia, too.  I don't know, there might be others.

Re: Lyrics to New song (Moorestown/Morristown)

In the 2004 GAMH gig recording he says "You want to hear a song about a girl in Virginia ?" and starts playing Trailways...

Re: Lyrics to New song (Moorestown/Morristown)

First of all, this song is absolutely devastating.  Second of all, I love the line where he says that "her dad's guitar sings open tunes."  Could this be a reference to the fact that almost every song Mark plays is in an open tuning!?!?!?!?
