Great gig. Some interesting new songs, some with a Spanish/Portuguese twist.
Does anyone know the set list. I know he played
Glenn Tipton
Carry Me Ohio
Duk Koo Kim
Last Tide
Lucky Man
Heron Blue
Blue Orchid (my highlight)
Moorsetown
Like the River
Tiny Cities
Jesus Christ was an only Child
But there were a few others I didn't know.
One of the better solo gigs I've been too. As ever his voice was something to behold and he seemed in good form. He actually told us that it looked like he was in a bad mood, but he assured us he wasn't! The crowd was very quiet and the place wasn't full so I was able to sit on the floor right up the front with my girl.
One of the new songs referred to a 'pudgy' girl and another (or possibly the same one) name checked places in the North-West of the US and Canada, like Puget Sound and Vancouver. The crowd applauded intensely after one new song, to which Mark quipped "it's not that good". ![]()
'Void' was left off the list there, I think. And the (rather beautiful) Michael Jackson tribute 'I'll Be There'. Can't remember others, or the running order.
Here's the setlist:
01. Glenn Tipton
02. Admiral Fell Promises
03. Like The River
04. I'll Be There (M Jackson cover)
05. Void
06. New Song 1 ("I threw the ashes.../Leaving her forever/With an ever burning red volcanic glow/And I forsaken her, when I amount to nothing")
07. Last Tide > Floating
08. New Song 2 ("See the pigeons peck on tall rooftops/Homeless on the corner kick around/Ferries float out in the Puget Sound/Scenesters with their beards and tennis shoes/skinny girls and pudgy ugly dudes/With their amplifiers from the ditches/raincloud Vancouver/dead in Denver/drowsy Idaho/blood orange LA, blood red Arizona, lone star Santa Fe, dried grass of El Paso")
09. Moorestown
10. New Song 3 ("Here in Half Moon Bay/Hear the hum of the highway/Highway 1")
11. Heron Blue
12. Blue Orchids
13. Carry Me Ohio
14. Duk Koo Kim > Jesus Christ was an Only Child
Encore:
15. You Ain't Got a Hold on Me
16. Lucky Man
17. Tiny Cities Made of Ashes

Really enjoyed last night's show, possibly my favourite solo one.
It was funny when a guy with a strong Norn Iron accent asked for "Modest Mouse" and Mark had no idea what he was asking and in the end said "take the screwdriver out of your ear". I think he genuinely enjoyed himself and thanked us for being so polite though earlier the blank space in front of him made him feel "like a freak".
Even a couple of photographers didn't piss him off and the new songs were fantastic particularly number 3 and the nylon string worked superbly especially on the Flamenco-styled songs.
He even played his Freebird (as he described Carry me Ohio) just a shame the 7 posters available were gone before I arrived.
Likewise I think the venue worked really well too so yet again another superb night. He asked if we were all looking forward to the U2 show and he said that no-one (cab drivers particularly) seemed to like U2.
As someone mentioned before it's a scandal that Mark isn't playing to bigger audiences and getting the kudos and rewards he deserves IMHO.

As a red house painters fan I was a little disappointed with the gig – not one of the old classics played! I find some of the Sun Kil Moon suff a little repetitive and boring.
On a positive note, it was great to see the genius doing his stuff live. His voice was incredible and the new material sounds great.
It was also funny seeing him hitting on 'the lighting girl' during the show!!

You're right... looking at the setlist it looks like the earliest songs are from "Old Ramon" (recorded in 1997, released in 2000) or "Rock N Roll Singer" (released in 2001).
It seems to be pot-luck if you get some RHP or not... I was at the London show on Sunday and he played Michael & Mistress, and he's played Things Mean A Lot on this tour too. The key seems to be to see him as often as possible so you'll get some eventually :-O

Yeah - I should of harrassed him more with heckles of 'Grace Cathedral Park' 'Down Through' etc
I'll not let him get away so lightly next time!
I can't wait to hear the news songs! Can't wait!
Anyone have a recording of this?
i have a question that might seem silly - mark is completely by himself on this tour?
