i love mojave 3.
saw them live only once - on tour with Lush and Scheer in 1996 for the Shaving the Pavement Tour up in SF. for a mellow band, they were fricken LOUD.
heh, i was at the SF show also. i was the idiot who yelled out, "we LOVE you Rachael!!!". ugh  . i couldn't help myself.

The new one is great, but i prefer Out Of Tune.
I haven't heard any Mojave 3 yet, but has anyone heard Neil Halstead and Rachel Goswell's last band, Slowdive? I have Souvlaki and really enjoy it.
you really should get the other slowdive albums then, i prefer pygmalion the most, but it is the hardest to find.. never released in the states, it usually goes around 30 bucks
Thanks for the recommendation, but oof, thirty bucks? I'll keep an eye out for a used copy.
I LOVE Mojave 3!!! Glad to see there's some like-minded souls here.
I've seen the full band twice at the Bowery Ballroom in NYC (last time just 2 months ago) and Neil Halstead solo acoustic at Knitting Factory in NYC. (I love living in NYC...there's always a show to see).
I too think the new album is a great progression for them, although Battle of the Broken Hearts is marginal for me. However, I do prefer Excuses for Travellers and Out of Tune.
Can't wait for Rachel's solo album which will be coming out...eventually?
If anybody was at the last Bowery Ballroom concert, did you check out the opener Sea Ray...I thought they were great.
battle of the broken hearts grew on me after seeing them do it live, but tinkers blues.. i've said it before, something in me just doesn't get along with those sesame street beat songs

I adore this cd. I tend to like the sound of Slowdive moreso than Mojave 3. Love "When the Sun Hits" - that song is gorgeous.
I love Mojave 3 - probably the band I've listened to the most the last couple of years. My favorite album is Ask me tomorrow, actually. It's gorgeous - and Rachel Goswell is "allowed" more space here than on the newer albums.
Slowdive's ok too. But really not my favorite band, I admit. There's some great tunes on Souvlaki and Just for a day, though. Don't know about Pygmalion - haven't heard it.
whats teh best Mojave 3 album to buy first if you've never heard them. i've heard many people saying that Ocean Beach is the best start for RHP.....you guys got any suggestions?
well, each album sort of has a different feel..
"ask me tomorrow" is the first album, it is a very soft and haunting album.. accoustic, a piano here, a dum beat there..
"out of tune" was a bit more developed and had added a couple more members to the band as the began to head into their western "spurgazer" direction
"excuses for travellers" was what out of tune wanted to be, highly developed and a band that really worked well together
"spoon and rafter" is more in that direction, but with more thought put into the development of songs and added experimentation, unheard with the singer since the days of slowdive
i bought 'Ask me tomorrow' today...i love it ![]()
'You're beautiful' is just the best song in the world to me at the moment, the whole album has a sort of ' blue guitar but how 4ad would have wanted it' kind of feel to it, thats the best way i can describe it...
